Atha yoganushasanum Now we begin the practice of yoga -Pantanjali Yoga Sutra 1:1 I'm excited to share that I just finished the first of hopefully six 10-day trainings with Robin Rothenberg at Essential Yoga Therapy. It was truly amazing. Part of the training includes the study of Pantanjali's Yoga Sutras, which is an often studied ancient yoga text. The first sutra is Atha yoganushasanum, 'now we begin the practice of yoga'. It makes sense to begin a book about Yoga with that sentence, but it means so much more for me. It is really about being in the present moment. Now, right now, how are you practicing your yoga? Are you sitting or standing well? Are you breathing well? Are you honoring your energy level? Are you totally outward focused? (Just so you know, every time I proof read this email, I have re-adjusted my seat to a seat that is better for my body, hahah, old habits die hard!) Yoga is so much more than the postures (asana) that we do in class. The practice of yoga is truly holistic, it is the union of your mind, body and spirit. We can explore and develop that union every day, even right now 'atha'. What does your practice look like right now? That is the question I am asking myself 100 times a day. How can I bring more wisdom and awareness to what is happening inside of me right now and how I move in the world. Sometimes to really see ourselves though we need others to help us. That is one of the wonderful things about practicing with a group. There are some wonderful group opportunities coming up if you'd like to join me. I am offering two New Moon Restorative Yoga Workshops this weekend. Saturday night, Mar 30 in Enumclaw and Sunday night, Mar 31 in Issaquah. Pre-registration recommended. Starting the first week of April I will be offering two Essential Low Back Series. Wednesday nights in Enumclaw and Thursday nights in Issaquah. Pre-registration recommended. And on April 7th I'll be offering a Shamanic Breathwork Workshop - A Spring Equinox Celebration. Pre-registration required. Additionally, I offer regular weekly classes in Enumclaw and Issaquah. Bring a friend, their first class is free. You can view my regular class schedule as well as my other offerings at my website. Atha yoganushasanum - Now we begin the practice of yoga. Dive deep to ascend, Andrea
