Responsible Nurturing, New Moon June 23 at 7:31pm pdt Note: This month the New Moon Mandala will be after the New Moon this Sunday June 25th at 6pm…there is still time to register!
A New Moon is the time in the lunar cycle when the moon is in the sun’s shadow and is invisible to us. In a similar way, many of our gifts, talents and even our deepest desires can lie in the shadows of our consciousness, perhaps obscured by our attention to other’s priorities or maybe just lost in the shadow of our everyday responsibilities. The potential to realize these gifts and desires is just like the potential a seed has to burst forth its new life when it is lying in the ground, invisible to the world. While the seed lies quietly and unnoticed, it is fully aware of its surroundings and sprouts up when the conditions are just right. We too need this quiet time so we can become more fully aware of our heart’s desires and our true potential. The new moon is a good time to quiet ourselves and to birth new goals and new ideas. It is a great time for new beginnings. This New Moon is in Cancer, the Nurturer of the zodiac. Cancer’s focus is on caring for others, most importantly their family and their ‘tribe’. Cancer people don’t always connect deeply with their blood relatives. In fact, sometimes family members have caused great wounds forcing the person to seek out and find their chosen family. Regardless, Cancer people will protect and nurture deeply all those they identify as ‘family.’ As a water sign, Cancer has a deep feeling function that is focused on understanding the feelings of those they care for so that they can take better care of them. Cancer is the still water that runs deep. They are deeply emotional, but often can seem standoffish which in a way serves as a shell to protect their soft insides. The key for Cancer is to care responsibly, avoiding burn out and codependence. Truly at the heart of nurturing is learning to nurture oneself first and Cancer people must learn to set clear boundaries with those who might take advantage of their generous hearts. It is also very important for Cancer people to learn to identify and understand their own feelings and motives. This Cancer New Moon is really a journey inward, into the subconscious mind and our inner thoughts. For this New Moon, the Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Mars are all in a tight embrace. Mars is about energy and action, Mercury influences communication and thinking style, the Moon impacts emotions and the Sun supplies the fuel to the equation. The result is a melding of intent and action, bringing all those energies together to focus on ‘responsible nurturing’. Mars and Mercury are really the big players this New Moon, drawing our attention to how we act and think. Jupiter (expansion, good fortune), Neptune (spiritual realm, subconscious) and Pluto (deep transformation) are also dancing with Mercury and Mars. This cosmic dance helps us to expand our understanding of our inner most thoughts, perhaps helping us gain a higher perspective and maybe even transform how we care for ourselves, how we accept nurturing from others, as well as how we nurture others. Additionally, there are some other really nice planetary connections that are supportive and kind. Venus (art, beauty, the feminine) and Pluto (transformation) are in a sweet embrace, inviting us to transform by spending time in beauty and with our women friends. Saturn (structure, foundation) continues to be in a nice embrace with the North Node (our true path), continuing to nudge us in the direction of laying down the foundation needed to bring our dreams into reality. Lastly, Neptune (spirituality, the subconscious) and Pluto (transformation) nicely complement one another giving us the sense of something greater than ourselves. Overall, this New Moon may be a little emotional but oh so sweet, and a wonderful opportunity to really nurture ourselves. I hope to see you Sunday! Dive deep to ascend, Andrea
