​2018 gets off to a big start with a Full Moon in Cancer on Jan 1st at 6:24pm. Full Moons illuminate what is coming to fruition or what needs tending in our lives. This Full Moon is especially powerful in that it helps to create a very special astrological geometric shape called a Kite. Planets involved in a kite are in mostly harmonious relationships.  The tail of this kite, the Moon (emotions, the mother), is in benevolent relationship with Neptune (spirituality, dreams), Mars (energy, action) and Jupiter (expansion).  All of these planets are pointed to the top of the kite which is anchored by the Sun (our fuel), Venus (love, feminine) and Pluto (transformation).  I like to think of kites as an opportunity to fly.  This is literally an opportunity to build a dream (the kite) while the wind (the spirit of life) is available to bring life and ultimately flight to it. What a wonderful chart to start off the New Year!
 
The Moon is at home in Cancer, as it is its ruling planet.  The sign of Cancer is often associated with the archetype of ‘The Mother.’ With the moon full in Cancer, themes of mothering, nurturing and fierce protection are all highlighted.  In the new year, we often want to make changes to our lives to bring our lives into better alignment with who we want to be.  This full moon can help us in that endeavor. The time is now. We are full and ready to make a change.  Whatever the change, we will need to call upon our internal mothering-self to protect and nurture our new path or habit.  When we begin something or make changes, the new habit or philosophy is tender and fragile. We need to create a safe place for it, protect it, nurture and feed this new idea.  With time and attention, eventually our new identity, philosophy or habit can take flight like a kite! 
 
This chart has a lot of supportive energy, but it is not a magic chart.  The watery, Cancer Moon points towards the Sun, Venus and Pluto all in Capricorn, a very grounded, slow moving energy.  As we move towards our 2018 goals, we need to ground them, build foundation and move slowly and purposefully.  We can harness Mars and Jupiter to give us the extra motivation we need to get started. We can use Neptune’s gift of dreaming and connection with a higher power to help move us towards our goal. However, at the end of the day, it is still going to be about setting ourselves up for success by building a solid foundation. 
 
Changing our lives takes time and effort.  This Full Moon, take the time to really sense, feel and connect deeply with yourself. What is it that you want to bring forth in the New Year? Don’t rush this process, move slowly like Capricorn.  Then, once you have identified and articulated your intention, nurture and protect it.  Care for it, hold it, feed it and love it, just like a mother would care for her newborn baby.
