This month the Full Moon illuminates Scorpio in our charts, calling us to dive deep, feel deep and use that intensity to create what it is we desire most. Sometimes called the Priestess Moon, or Magic Moon, it illuminates our power to harness our emotions to create. After all, our most cherished creations are born from the power of desire and emotion. If you take the time to think of any cherished accomplishment you have brought to fruition it has most likely been born of hard work, desire, passion, and emotion.
Ah, but there is a rub. Our society, doesn’t really like emotion, especially not emotional intensity. Look at the current, more common name of this Full Moon, the ‘Flower Moon’. Ah, isn’t that sweet. Don’t get me wrong, I love flowers. But the name implies a glossing over of the struggle that ensues prior to the short brief apex of bloom. First the seed has to wait for the right moment to crack open (sitting in the ‘stew pot’ of transformation). Then when the conditions are right, it needs to push hard to find its way to the light AND down deep or it will starve (fear, anger, primal need, desperation). Delicate stems and roots move rocks and dirt aside (perseverance, power, strength, determination). Once it finds the light it needs, it can continue to grow upward AND root downward against forces such as weather, bugs, more rocks and poor soil (struggle, fear, attack). AFTER all that effort, maybe it successfully creates a bud, then bloom (fruition, joy). Remember though, the purpose of the bloom is to create fruit and seed. So, the bloom (joy) only lasts a few days after weeks or perhaps even months of diligence and struggling. Then the bloom dies (sorrow, loss, decay), bringing us full circle to a new seed (goal, dream) filled with potential and waiting for the right moment to begin its own journey of transformation. Such is the cycle of life. Our culture tends to ignore the diligence, passion and intense emotion it takes to bring long cherished dreams to fruition and instead only highlights the very brief, happy pinnacle. Change and transformation takes great effort and passion. It is important that we create space in our lives and the lives of others for the entirety of the experience to be felt, witnessed and held. When this powerful, magical force gets reduced, marginalized, pushed aside and in worse situations, out right squashed it becomes shadow. (Which is how Scorpio tends to get its bad rap.) Shadow creeps and seeps back in, often in very unhealthy and unkind ways. It comes back as power over, manipulation, addiction, depression, anxiety and abuse. The truth is emotion and desire is an integral part of our humanity. We can’t pick and choose which emotions we want, we need them all. We need sorrow to fully be able to appreciate and embrace joy. We need anger to really understand contentment and happiness. We need isolation to savor and appreciate community. This Magic Moon, asks us to dive deep within, search ourselves deeply to unearth our inner passion and bring it to the surface. Additionally, the inner planets are no longer retrograde and have begun moving forward, helping us to move forward. Like that little seed, we too have been waiting in the soils of transformation and now we have a new opportunity to push upward AND root downward to bring our dreams to light. Mercury and Uranus are in a passionate embrace, giving our speech clarity and intensity. We are able to think in innovative ways, possibly changing deeply held beliefs that needed to be overhauled. The challenge here is we may have a sharp tongue if we speak without thinking. Be mindful of your words. Remember, our thoughts become words, words become actions and our actions create our life. The blessing of this Full Moon is the wonderful Grand Trine between Mercury and Uranus with Saturn and the North Node. The North Node represents our ‘life’s purpose’ and Saturn is about foundation and structure. Mercury is communication and how you think and Uranus is sudden, unpredictable change and leapfrog evolution. They are all dancing in the fires of transformation (Aries, Sagittarius and Leo). So, now is the time to move forward with your deepest desires. Bring them out to the light. Share them with others. Dare to voice what has been lying deep within your own rich soil of your soul so you may bring your goals and dreams into reality. Yoga practice suggestion: Start in child’s pose, imagine yourself a seed in the soil. Then begin to move your body, rocking, rolling. Move organically towards Table then Downward Facing Dog, then to Forward Fold, and finally to Mountain Pose. Stand in Mountain Pose and root your feet and raise your spine. Practice some standing poses, with the focus of rooting and rising. Ritual suggestions: Close your eyes. Allow your seat to get heavy. Turn your thoughts toward your vast inward world. Imagine the moon illuminating your heart. See what emerges from the door way of your heart. Dive deep to ascend, Andrea
