The Story Teller Full Moon in Gemini, 11 degrees December 3, 2017 at 7:47am The Moon was full in Gemini today at 7:47am. Gemini is the story teller of the zodiac. This Full Moon is all about the stories we tell ourselves, our inner stories. There are really two primary players for this full moon. Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, and Neptune.
Mercury went retrograde on Dec 2nd and will remain retrograde until Dec 22nd. When a planet is retrograde, it appears to us on earth to be moving backwards. Obviously, it’s not actually moving backwards. However, perceptions are super important to us as we will see below. Generally, when a planet is retrograde, it turns the energy of that planet toward inward investigation instead of outward exploration. Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius, suggests that we have an opportunity to explore our inner truths, how we speak to ourselves, what do we believe to be true and the stories we tell ourselves. Positive psychology is finding that the inner dialogue and thought processes are extremely powerful in creating our outer perceptions, which in turn create our lives. I have been reading Shawn Achor’s book Before Happiness for the Habits for Happiness Book Group. (Find out more about the Book Group by clicking here). When we are in a negative state of mind, we literally interpret physical space inaccurately. Say you need to climb a mountain and you are tired. If your headspace is negative, if the mantra in your mind is “I can’t,” then guess what? You see the mountain as taller than it actually is! So how you think and what you say to yourself really matters. Henry Ford was onto something when he said “If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.” Neptune is the other major player this full moon. She is in deep conversation with several other planets and she has a lot to say because for the last several months she had been retrograde. Neptune first went retrograde on June 16th, about a week before the new moon in June which was in Gemini. She ended her inward, retrograde, journey on November 22nd. Now that she is moving forward, she is taking all that inner investigation she was doing, and manifesting it outwardly. One of the key areas Neptune rules is the subconscious. I read somewhere that the conscious mind is just a flea on an elephant. The elephant being our subconscious mind. If that’s the case, then how we think, is more ruled by our subconscious mind than our conscious mind. With Neptune as a key player and moving forward, a highlight of this full moon is on the subconscious mind, not just the conscious mind. While we do affect the subconscious mind by how we consciously think, it is also greatly impacted by amorphous inputs like what we watch, what we read and who we hang out with, etc. In Before Happiness, Achor shares a study where 380 managers at USB were shown a video. One group saw a 3-minute video talking about the negative effects of stress and the 2nd group saw a 3-minute video on the positive effects of stress. Yes, there are positive effects of stress. We just never hear about them! After a week, the two groups completed tests that determined how stressed they felt. The 2nd group, the ones who watched the positive stress video had a 23% drop in physical stress symptoms! It would be hard to believe that a short, 3-minute video could consciously impact a person for an entire week. However, during that week a person might think about the video a couple of times, maybe even share some ideas from it with a couple of friends. Even if it were not front and center in their thinking process, that short video could very possibly have had an impact on their subconscious mind. I’m sharing this study because we are bombarded by negative media. The media often tells us that we are not enough, don’t have enough and our world is falling apart. This impacts us deeply, especially on a subconscious level. Just think about how much negative news you watch, certainly it is more than 3 minutes in an entire week. This full moon suggests that you take some time to really look at both your external and internal inputs. Take some time to look at how you spend your time and with whom. What are your non-thinking behaviors? How can those experiences shape your perceptions? Dive Deep to Ascend, Andrea
